Florence H. Colwell

FLORENCE H. COLWELL Florence H. Colwell, 99 and approaching 100, was called home to be with the Lord on August 17, 2026 peacefully in her home. She was born in Wilson Hospital, formerly lived in Windsor, NY and currently lived in Hallstead, PA. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Howard S. Colwell Sr.; by her son, Howard S. Colwell Jr.; by her daughter-in-law, Cindy Colwell; her siblings, Madeline (Kenneth) Osterhout, Doris (William) Smith, Olive (Gerald) Colwell, Irving Brown; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and by two grandsons. Florence is survived by her children, Charles, Clarence (Sue), Carlton (Connie), Stanley (Roann), Donald (Marion), Douglas (Angelia), Janet (Tom) Dayton, Judy (Frank) Rountree; sisters-in-law, Jean Colwell, Shirley Colwell, Jane Colwell, and Mary Holtzman; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She worked beside her husband on the dairy farm in Windsor, NY. Florence was a member of the East Great Bend Grange for over 50 years and part of the Locust Hill 4-H for many years. She was a member of the Hallstead Baptist Church, where she was married and then the Locust Hill Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. In her later years, she was a member of the South New Milford Baptist Church. She will be remembered for her enjoyment of flowers and gardening. More recently she found pleasure in traveling. Florence especially loved spending time with her family. The family wishes to extend their deep appreciation to everyone who helped care for Florence over the last few months, many family members, friends, and Traditional Home Hospice, enabling her to stay in the comfort of her own home. A memorial service will be held at noon, on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at the South New Milford Baptist Church, 2967 Harford Road, New Milford, PA 18834. Friends may call from 10-12, at the church, prior to the service. A private inurnment will be made in Newman Cemetery at a later date. Instead of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to the church in her memory.
