Mrs. Cheryl Ann Manchester

CHERYL ANN (SPUDIS) MANCHESTER Cheryl Ann (Spudis) Manchester passed away after an extended illness on March 23, 2012. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, John; two sons, Patrick, New York, New York and Brian of San Jose, CA; her mother, Joan Spudis, Hughestown, PA; a brother, William Spudis and his wife, Terri, Yatesville, PA; a brother, Thomas Spudis, Hughestown; a sister, Joanie Spudis, Hughestown, PA; a sister, Mary Beth Grillo and husband, Frank, West Pittston, PA; many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, a special grand nephew, Brady, and many in-laws and friends who all showed her great love and support throughout her life, and especially in her last days. She was predeceased by her father, William Spudis. Cheryl was a graduate of Pittston Area High School, Penn State University, and Wilkes University. She taught mathematics and technology for 32 years in the Blue Ridge School District, during which time she also served as Mathematics Department Chairperson, Curriculum Coordinator for the District, Band Front Advisor, Cheerleader Advisor, and was involved in the Student Assistance Program. For many years Cheryl organized and ran Red Cross Blood Drives at the school. She was a member of St. Lawrence Roman Catholic parish, the Blue Ridge Education Association, the National Education Association, and the Northeastern Pennsylvania Council of Teachers of Mathematics, for whom she ran a mathematics contest each spring for several years. Cheryl took great pleasure in raising her sons and in supporting all of their many activities, and her passing will leave a deep void in our lives. The family wishes to thank all of the secretaries, nurses, and especially Dr. Sheth, of Broome Oncology, the nurses and support staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart, all of whom provided tremendous care and compassion, and also Cheryl’s doctors and their assistants at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Funeral services will be held at the Tuttle-Yeisley Funeral Home, Inc., Hallstead, PA on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 10:30 and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church. Interment will be made in St. Lawrence Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
