John Gregory Merrell

John Gregory Merrell, 85, of Hallstead P.A. passed away peacefully on the morning of December 14th, 2014. John touched people’s lives from his birth on May 12th, 1929 until his passing, after a long struggle with heart disease, on December 14th, 2014. He is survived by his wife, and lifetime love of 63 years, Lois Merrell, his three children and their spouses, Michele and Shelby Lyman, Rich and Sheri Merrell, Gregory John and Lisa Merrell, and his brother William Merrell. John is the proud grandfather of Charles Goff, Corey Goff, Casey Goff, Lauren Merrell, Daniel John Merrell, and Brittany Merrell. His pride continues with great grandchildren, Hunter Goff, Collin Goff, and Michael John Goff. John served his country in the army, served his community as a volunteer fireman, served his church as an elder, served the town’s young people as a scout leader, fished, hunted, loved the outdoors, and loved his flea markets. While many people feel their life is defined by money, power, and material items John’s life was defined by his family. He created a dome of security, love, respect, and happiness for his wife and children. This loss is difficult to put into words because while we know he’s gone … to us he will never be gone. He will always be with us as he taught us how to live life. So every time we make a decision, have a family event, hear family laughter, are faced with a situation, we know he is there to guide us … he will always be there. He lived his life with honor, principles, respect for all things, and loyalty and commitment to the family he loved. Through life you meet various types of people. Some people are principled, some are loyal, some are family oriented, and what makes John so exceptional is he is a rare man who has all of these qualities. We are proud that we are his wife, his children, his grandchildren, and his great grandchildren and we will continue to live our lives as he has taught us. We are all blessed and his legacy will live on. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. at the Tuttle-Yeisley Funeral Home, Inc., Hallstead, PA. Spring interment will be made in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hallstead, PA. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m., at the funeral home, prior to the service.
