ETHEL JANE LEWIS Ethel Jane Lewis, 90, of Binghamton, NY formerly of Brookdale, PA was called home to be with the Lord on February 7, 2022. She is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Harold Lewis Jr.; five children, Hal (June) Lewis, Sue (John) Krause, Russ (Jo Ann) Lewis, Phil Lewis, and Dan (Lillnette) Lewis; son-in-law, David Mercincavage; former daughter-in-law, Joyce Lewis; 14 grandchildren, Tosh (Michelle) Lewis, Tats Lewis, Stephen Melton, Alex Krause, Russ Jr. (Tiffany) Lewis, Rich (Amanda) Lewis, Chris (Ani) Mercincavage, Amy (Jonas) Erickson, Pete (Bethany) Mercincavage, Nathaniel (Isa) Mercincavage, Isaac Mercincavage, Kylie Ingraham, Hannah Lewis, and Scout Lewis; 17 great grandchildren, Maria Lewis, Mitchio Lewis, Riley Melton, Jordan Paugh, Cyle Lewis, Mya Lewis, Alexis Lewis, Mashala Survilla (Nick), Caitlin Lewis, Madison Lewis, Olivia Lewis, Max Mercincavage, Charlie Mercincavage, Brayden Erickson, Logan Erickson, Mary Jane Erickson, and Finley Mercincavage; a great great grandson, Edward Hernandez; two siblings, Ellen (Gary) Marcy and Cyrus (Sue) English; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Mary English; also by a daughter, Mary Mercincavage; and siblings, Mary Ann Wilbur, John English, Georgia Wilber, and George English. Ethel began her career with Security Mutual. She later worked as a bookkeeper for a variety of construction companies. In between those jobs, she dedicated her life to raising her children. Ethel was a member of First Christian Church, Kirkwood, Necker Valley Baptist Church, in Boeblingen, Germany, and then Valley View Alliance, Vestal, NY. She was active as a Sunday School Teacher. Ethel had a sweet disposition and everyone became her grandchildren. Her adventurous spirit made her fall in love with sleigh riding, often convincing her younger siblings, grandchildren, and great grandchildren that they needed to go with her. She was still going sledding into her late 80s. Ethel’s encouragement and support directly contributed to her husband and son’s Doctoral Degrees. She often assisted in the field with Harold’s research. Ethel was known for her apple pies, cookies, and potato salad. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, February 12, 2022 at the Tuttle-Yeisley Funeral Home, Inc., Hallstead, PA with her brother, Pastor Cyrus English officiating. Spring interment will be made in Brookdale Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m., prior to the service. Should friends so desire, expressions of sympathy may take the form of a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 387 East South Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
