February 19, 1943 - December 24, 2021
The strongest woman we know passed away on December 24, 2021 at the age of 78. After a year long battle with health issues starting with a cancer diagnosis in October of 2020, Carolyn E. (Jones) Pratt just couldn't fight any longer. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Robert “Bob” Pratt; two daughters, Elizabeth (Leon) Ralston and Jennifer (Frank) Perney; grandchildren, Christopher (Tara) Ralston, Robert Ralston, Matthew Ralston, and Noah Ralston, Colin Perney, Samantha Perney, and Reagan Perney; great grandchildren, Colin, Lily, and Blake Ralston; a sister, Kathy (Clyde) Stickney, FL; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Lois and Warren Jones and a sister, Jennifer Langston. Born in Indiana on February 19, 1943 with a cancerous tumor on her leg, she had her leg amputated at 10 days old. The family moved to Miami, Florida where she graduated from Miami High in 1961. Despite having one leg, Carolyn was a typical child, roller skating, riding bike, and playing oboe in the marching band. She moved to Gainesville Florida and attended The University of Florida. What started out as a pen-pal with an Air Force soldier in Vietnam turned into a marriage and a family living in Montrose, PA. She loved baseball and would talk your ear off about “Her” Yankees. Her most prized possession was her signed Roger Maris picture. She also loved her alma mater, the Florida Gators, but learned to root for her daughter's school Penn State. She had a hard time rooting for the 2011 Outback Bowl when the teams played each other. A stay at home mom most of her daughters’ lives, she did work a few places. Everyone would recognize her as the lady with one leg on crutches. Carolyn would do anything for her daughters and never missed an activity or chance to volunteer. You would find her at the dining room table playing games or cards with the family every holiday. Carolyn skillfully handled crutches and being an amputee, gracefully and without complaint, never letting it keep her from living a full life. She was an amazingly strong woman, sister, wife, mom, grandma, and great grandma. We love her with all our hearts and will miss her here on Earth, but know she is healthy and happy running around with family and friends in Heaven. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 31, 2021 at the Franklin Hill Presbyterian Church. Inurnment will be made in the Franklin Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. at the church, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Franklin Hill Presbyterian Church, 400 Franklin Hill Road, Hallstead, PA 18822 in her memory.
