    Betty J. Kelley Sturek

    August 27, 1931 - January 26, 2021

Betty J. Kelley Sturek, 89, formerly of Hallstead, PA and Binghamton, NY, was called home to be with the Lord on January 26, 2021. She was reunited with family members in Heaven, including her parents, Arthur Tower and Dorothy Brink; her first husband, Marvin F. Kelley Jr.; her sister, Peggy (Robert) Barclay; and her second husband, Joseph Sturek. Betty is survived by her children, Frederick Kelley, Scott (Jill) Kelley, and Eric (Patty) Kelley; grandchildren, Sara Kelley Havener, Matthew Kelley, Megan (Cory) Swatling, Dani Kelley (Mike), Erin Kelley; great grandchildren, Kendall Grace, William, and Duke; several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and step-grand-daughter, Faith Bisner, who was her constant support and companion. Betty was devoted to her family and raising her three boys. When in her 50’s, she enrolled in BCC and graduated nursing school as an LPN. She worked at Lourdes Hospital, Garden House Nursing Home, and completed her career at the Veterans’ Home in Oxford. Betty’s community involvement included being an active member in the West Presbyterian Church, Binghamton, NY, teaching Sunday School for many years, assisting with raising funds to send children to church camp and Martha’s Circle. She was a past-president of Friends of the Binghamton Symphony, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and an active member of the D.A.R. She was a proud descendant of passengers on the Mayflower. In Hallstead, Betty was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder. She and Joe enjoyed fishing. Betty was one of a kind. She was happy, friendly, caring and loved being with people and watching children grow. She had a magnetism that drew you in with the way she looked at you, smiled, and shared a genuine sincerity and concern for others. Throughout her life and to her last days at Good Shepherd Fairview Home, everyone who met Betty loved her and cherished time with her. The family wishes to thank Dani, Faith, Kristen and her other caregivers in Hallstead, and the staff of Fairview Good Shepherd Nursing Home, for the incredible personal care. She was always treated like family. Delayed inurnment will be in Floral Park Cemetery. Donations in memory of Betty may be made to The Daughters of the American Revolution, 1776 D Street, NW, Washington, DC 20006, for the Montrose, PA chapter.
