Robert Donald Frantz

Robert Donald Frantz, 85, of Gelatt (Thompson) passed away early Saturday morning, July 1, 2023 at Wilson Hospital. He was born November 27, 1937, to Carlyle and Frances (Williams) Frantz in Johnson City, NY. He graduated from Union-Endicott High School in 1957. Summers were spent on his grandparents' farm near Gelatt. He helped on the farm and got into the cattle business along with hauling cans of milk to the creamery. As opportunities arose he also began assisting local funeral directors (Stuart Holmes, John Yeisley, Mark Idding). His heart was in that business too as he saw how he could help people in their time of grief. During these years he experienced serious illness, but he recovered and carried on in his multiple interests. He visited many elderly folks and helped people out in their time of need. He enjoyed deer hunting with his dad. He enjoyed his many dogs over the years especially Barney, Rainbow, Sweetie... On September 30, 1978, his bachelor days were over as he married Lois Good Mininger and had almost 45 years of marriage. Bob was predeceased by his parents and only sister Sharon Ayres. He is survived by his wife, Lois; daughter, Amy Freitag, her husband Kristopher; and grandson Joseph Karlyle. He is also survived by his in-laws Robert Ayres, Mark & Dorrie Mininger, David & Marian Mininger, Mike & Grace Chace, Richard & Linda Mininger, Ken & Rhoda Mininger. He also has many cherished nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. In his young adult years he accepted Jesus as his Savior and joined the Lakeview Mennonite Church where he enjoyed being a greeter and usher. He was known for requesting prayer for the needs of people he met or knew. In conversation he was always ready to tell a story and maybe a joke. Evenings were often filled with daily phone calls to keep up with friends and others in need. His wish to remain active in the cattle business as long as possible (66 years) was fulfilled as he and Lois were on their way to pick up calves on Wednesday when he began having stroke-like symptoms. A very special Thank You to the staff at Barnes Kasson Hospital and then Wilson Hospital for the excellent compassionate care he received to make his last few days as comfortable as possible. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Tuttle-Yeisley Funeral Home in Hallstead, PA. Calling hours will be Wednesday July 5th 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the funeral home. Funeral service will be Thursday July 6, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Lakeview Mennonite Church, with calling hours there from 10:00 am until time of service.
