Grant A. McHugh

Grant McHugh was a light in the world; a North Star for many who knew him. Yes, he was and accomplished many other things, but his warmth and shining presence cannot be overstated. Grant’s life began on September 28, 1971. His father, Jon, who always wanted a son, was given the gift of Grant by June; he was a most loyal and faithful boy, and eventually man. Loyalty, in fact was one of his superpowers. Grant was the funny and clever one, and he used his humor and quick wit to charm his two older sisters Melissa and Traci; there simply was no resisting his twinkling blue eyes. He returned the favor by loving them deeply and always having their backs no matter what. What gave Grant’s soul the greatest joy and meaning is his son Evan. The depth of love Grant felt for Evan is immeasurable and unconditional. Over the last few months they were beginning to know each other as men and Grant was so very proud of Evan’s character and accomplishments. Grant’s heart also belonged to Nik and Sydney. He described Nik as “my guy” and Sydney as “magical,” and there are no deeper compliments. Many of his favorite experiences, sayings, stories and memories came from his relationships with them and he was such a loving, grounding and steady force in their lives. Grant graduated from Penn State University and was a licensed Surveyor with a strong work ethic and meticulous eye for detail. He held himself and those he worked with to the highest standards. One of the things he loved the most about his work is that he got to perform it along side his best friend Mark for many years. Their mutual loyalty and trust was a gift and their adventures filled with side-splitting laughter was icing on the cake. Being a longtime member of the Pennsylvania Freemasons - Bluestone Lodge #338 was a great source of hope, connection and service for Grant. Over the years he forged many beloved friendships, held several positions and either coordinated or participated in many community projects. He was proud to be part of something so positive and supportive of others. Grant leaves a huge hole in the hearts of family, friends and persons who he shared his remarkable spirit with. He was thoughtful, intelligent and brave; he showed up and he brought a bounty of humor to everything he did.
