Darlene L. Canfield

Darlene Canfield, 62, of Great Bend PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on May 20th, 2024. She was the daughter of late Leon and Roberta Canfield. She was also predeceased by her brother, Leon Canfield Jr. She is survived by her 4 children; Joe (Kristie) Canfield, Jim (Tracy) Canfield, George (Monica) Wayman, and Jessica Muzzy (Justin Baker), 10 grandchildren; Justin, Katie, Gabriel, McKenzi, Sophia, Dallas, Aria, Justin, Jason, and Jacob, and 3 siblings; Annette Rudock, Marion Clark, and Willard Canfield. Darlene had many jobs throughout her life, she was a strong independent woman, some might say she was stubborn. She worked at US Assemblies in Great Bend for some time until it closed and as a housekeeper for many years, first in her hometown at the old Keystone Hotel and Colonial Brick Motel in Great Bend/Hallstead, but most recently worked 20 long years in environmental services at EMHS in Montrose. The staff and patients would always say that she was one of the hardest workers in the hospital and often outworked those who were half her age. She didn’t do it for the money though, she loved the patients. She would sit and talk with patients so they weren’t alone and make sure they had everything they needed even though it wasn’t in her job description. She loved volunteering for the relay race every year and volunteered in many other ways to help the community or anyone in need. She loved farm life and all animals but especially her dogs. She loved baking Christmas cookies with family and made the best kolaches anyone has ever tasted! She enjoyed bowling, fishing, and spotlighting adventures with her kids, which brings me to her most important role in life, being a mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her grandchildren more than anything in the world. Despite being a single mother, she always made sure her kids had everything they needed and more. She was always there for them through everything in life regardless if she agreed with their decisions. Darlene was loved by so many and will be deeply missed by her loved ones. Respecting her wishes, there will not be a service and the family will have a private memorial the way she wanted.
