Bernita J. Thatcher

Bernita Joyce Thatcher, 89, passed away peacefully in her Gibson, Pennsylvania home on April 1, 2026. She was reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Kenneth, who preceded her in 2007; as well as her sister, Geraldine Elbrecht; and brothers, Morgan, Garth, and Douglas Kent. Bernita is survived by her children, Marjorie (Edward) Sebring, Harry (Mary) Thatcher, and Dawn (D.J.) Meagher; five grandchildren, Michael (Melissa) Thatcher, Jeremy (Stephanie) Thatcher, Natalie (Joshua) Elmer, Cooper Meagher, and Riley Meagher; five great-grandchildren, Lyric, Rhythm, Logan, Emma, and Sadie; a sister-in-law, Lena Kent; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Bernita married “Kennie,” the love of her life, in 1952 and graduated in 1954 from Hallstead High School, while Ken served his country. As a faithful servant, she delighted in leading prayer and being a long-time member of the Gibson United Methodist Church where she led many to grow in faith through her example. She devoted her life to her husband, children, and grandchildren, who all adored her. “Bea” warmly welcomed family and friends into her home for a delicious meal or treat, delightful conversation, smiles, and laughter. Whether enjoying ice cream, spending time working on puzzles, or singing and dancing in the kitchen, she found happiness in life’s sweetest details and simplest pleasures. She loved gardening, knitting, crocheting, baking, and playing games. Bernita brought joy to so many and will be dearly missed. Harry and Marjorie are grateful for Dawn's presence in their Mom's day-to-day care for the last several years. The family also wishes to express their appreciation to Hospice of the Sacred Heart and her caregivers, Mary Pat Freitag, Tracy Grennell, Colleen King, and Colleen Wilkes, who made it possible for her to remain in her home for the last two weeks of her journey. A private interment ceremony will be held at the Gibson Cemetery.
